Chelsea will appeal against the sending off of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois during their opening day draw against Swansea.Courtois was sent off for taking down Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis just inside the penalty area, with the Swans converting the penalty to score the goal that earned them a 2-2 draw.According to reports the Chelsea appeal is based on the fact that, while Gomis was through and clear had he not been stopped by Courtois, the ball was not heading towards goal. There was a huge response from fans after the match, with many outraged that the Blues’ Belgian goalkeeper received his marching orders. But many argued that the dismissal was justified, both on the grounds that it was a professional foul and that it was a high, late challenge.Writing in the Daily Mail, former top-flight referee Graham Poll said he believed Courtois should not have been sent off. “For the denial of a ‘clear and obvious’ goalscoring opportunity the ball must be heading towards goal and, as replays show, it was not,” Poll wrote. Yet Poll’s article went on to suggest that it is highly unlikely Chelsea’s appeal will succeed, given the FA’s general reluctance to overturn referees’ decisions.”I would differ from Oliver’s view [that it was a red card] – but only with the benefit of hindsight and replays,” added Poll.”Having said that, I would not criticise Oliver as it was a marginal call and live at full speed it is a really tough decision.”It was good to see Oliver supporting his assistant before the penalty was taken by cautioning Chelsea captain John Terry for his lengthy protest at Lennard.” –Follow Joy Sports on Twitter: @Joy997FM. Hot water outputThe hot water delivery from these and all tankless water heaters depends on the temperature rise. The smaller, 100,000 Btu/hour models provide about 3.8 gpm at a 50°F temperature rise, but only 2.1 gpm at a 90°F rise. The largest Eternal Hybrid provides 7.6 gpm at a 50°F temperature rise and 4.2 gpm at a 90°F temperature rise — which should be plenty for two or three simultaneous showers. CostAs with most other tankless water heaters, cost is the Achilles heel. Prices of the A.O. Smith NEXT Hybrid are typically in the $1,800 to $2,000 range (not including installation), and I think the Eternal Hybrids are even more expensive. For the larger Eternal Hybrid models, there may also be the added cost of running 3/4” gas lines, instead of more typical 1/2”.Yes, they appear to have some performance advantages over conventional tankless water heaters, but whether they will make economic sense over conventional gas storage water heaters will depend on the situation and usage habits. Alex is founder of BuildingGreen, Inc. and executive editor of Environmental Building News. He also recently created the Resilient Design Institute. To keep up with Alex’s latest articles and musings, you can sign up for his Twitter feed. Various sizesThe A.O. Smith NEXT Hybrid has a maximum gas input of 100,000 Btu/hour, which the company claims is enough to provide a “first-hour rating” of 189 gallons. (See last week’s blog for more on water heating ratings.)The Eternal Hybrid is available in three sizes with maximum gas inputs of 100,000, 145,000, or 195,000 Btu/hour. The minimum gas input is 16,000 Btu/hour for the smallest model and 26,000 Btu/hour for the other two. The largest of these models, the GU195, is available for modulating installations in which up to eight units are installed together for commercial applications. The A.O. Smith NEXT Hybrid and the smallest Eternal Hybrid can be supplied with the 1/2-inch gas line; the larger Eternal Hybrid models require 3/4-inch gas lines. In last week’s blog I compared tankless and storage water heaters and explained why tankless water heaters often don’t make that much sense. This week I’ll describe a newer type of water heater that has some features of both storage and tankless designs and solves several problems that are common with tankless models. While these are referred to as hybrid water heaters, they are quite different from heat-pump water heaters, which are also often referred to as hybrid. I’ll cover heat-pump water heaters next week. High efficiency, condensing technologyBoth the A.O. Smith NEXT Hybrid and Eternal Hybrid use condensing combustion technology to exceed 90% efficiency. Grand Hall claims up to 98% efficiency with the Eternal Hybrid. The flue gases are cool enough that they are vented through a side wall using PVC or ABS plastic pipe. In fact, due to the acidic condensate, these water heaters should not be vented into a masonry chimney.Like other advanced, state-of-the-art tankless water heaters, both products have electronic ignition rather than a standing pilot light. Some storage but also continuous hot waterAs far as I can tell, the hybrid water heater was invented in 2006 by a relatively small company, Grand Hall USA of Garland, Texas, a company that also makes barbeque grills. Grand Hall’s Eternal Hybrid water heater defined this product type.In 2010, the nation’s largest water heater manufacturer, A.O. Smith followed suit with their NEXT Hybrid, which the company has been promoting fairly actively. Both are gas-fired tankless water heaters that have a small buffer tank, which is kept hot. The Eternal Hybrid has a two-gallon tank; the A.O. Smith NEXT Hybrid tank is probably about the same size, though the company doesn’t divulge the specifics. There are two advantages of the buffer tank: first, it eliminates the so-called “cold water sandwich” problem in which someone taking a shower may suddenly get a shot of cold water from a standard tankless water heater; and second, it allows hot water to be delivered with even tiny loads, as might be delivered in a low-flow bathroom faucet. (With most tankless water heaters the burner isn’t activated unless the hot water flow exceeds 0.5 or 0.6 gallons per minute.) Like other tankless water heaters, its small size is another big benefit.

DefinitionA knee MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan uses energy from strong magnets to create pictures of the knee joint and muscles and tissues. An MRI does not use radiation (x-rays). Single MRI images are called slices. The images can be stored on a computer or printed on film. One exam produces many images.Alternative NamesMRI – kneeHow the test is performedYou will wear a hospital gown or clothes without metal zippers or snaps (such as sweatpants and a t-shirt). Certain types of metal can cause blurry images. You will lie on a narrow table that slides into a large tunnel-like scanner. Some exams use a special dye (contrast). Most of the time, you will get the dye through a vein (IV) in your arm or hand before the test. Sometimes, the dye is given into a joint. The dye helps the radiologist see certain areas more clearly.During the MRI, the person who operates the machine will watch you from another room. The test most often lasts 30-60 minutes, but may take longer. How to prepare for the testYou may be asked not to eat or drink anything for 4 – 6 hours before the scan.Tell your doctor if you are afraid of close spaces (have claustrophobia). You may be given a medicine to help you feel sleepy and less anxious. Your doctor may suggest an “open” MRI, in which the machine is not as close to the body. Before the test, tell your health care provider if you have:advertisementBrain aneurysm clipsCertain types of artificial heart valvesHeart defibrillator or pacemakerInner ear (cochlear) implantsKidney disease or dialysis (you may not be able to receive contrast)Recently placed artificial jointsCertain types of vascular stentsWorked with sheet metal in the past (you may need tests to check for metal pieces in your eyes)Because the MRI contains strong magnets, metal objects are not allowed into the room with the MRI scanner:Pens, pocketknives, and eyeglasses may fly across the room.Items such as jewelry, watches, credit cards, and hearing aids can be damaged.Pins, hairpins, metal zippers, and similar metallic items can distort the images.Removable dental work should be taken out just before the scan. How the test will feelAn MRI exam causes no pain. You will need to lie still. Too much movement can blur MRI images and cause errors. The table may be hard or cold, but you can ask for a blanket or pillow. The machine makes loud thumping and humming noises when turned on. You can wear ear plugs to help block out the noise. An intercom in the room allows you to speak to someone at any time. Some MRIs have televisions and special headphones to help the time pass. There is no recovery time, unless you were given a medicine to relax. After an MRI scan, you can return your normal diet, activity, and medicines. Why the test is performedYour doctor may order this test if you have:An abnormal result on a knee x-ray or bone scanA feeling that your knee is giving away in the knee jointBuildup of joint fluid behind the knee (Bakers cyst)Fluid collecting in the knee jointInfection of the knee jointKnee cap injuryKnee pain with feverKnee locking when you walk or movingSigns of damage to the knee muscle, cartilage, or ligamentsKnee pain that does not get better with treatmentYou may also have this test to check your progress after knee surgery.Normal ValuesA normal result means your knee looks okay. What abnormal results meanAbnormal results may be due to a sprain or tear of the ligaments in the knee area.Abnormal results may also be due to:Arthritis of the kneeAvascular necrosis (also called osteonecrosis)Bone tumor or cancerBroken boneBuildup of joint fluid behind the knee (Bakers cyst)Infection in the bone (osteomyelitis)InflammationInjury of the knee capTalk to your health care provider if you have questions or concerns. What the risks areMRI contains no radiation. There have been no reported side effects from the magnetic fields and radio waves. The most common type of contrast (dye) used is gadolinium. It is very safe. Allergic reactions to the substance are rare. However, gadolinium can be harmful to people with kidney problems that need dialysis. If you have kidney problems, please tell your health care provider before the test. The strong magnetic fields created during an MRI can cause heart pacemakers and other implants to not work as well. It can also cause a piece of metal inside your body to move or shift. For safety reasons, please dont bring anything that contains metal into the scanner room.advertisementSpecial considerationsTests that may be done instead of a knee MRI include:CT scan of the kneeKnee x-rayReferencesWilkinson ID, Paley MNJ. Following protracted negotiations, they eventually managed to convince the Blaugrana to accept a fee that kept them under that mark. Just like shopping in a market,” club general manager Fu Qiang told China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.”A thing is priced at ¥10 (Chinese Yuan), but you consider only paying ¥8 to buy it. There is alway the need to drive a hard bargain in negotiations, and that’s why the final transfer fee is €5.55 million.”The main challenge facing us was the departure time of Mascherano. We signed the contract on Dec. 23 last year, but Barcelona insisted they won’t let him leave until Jan. 25.”Mascherano played two games shortly afterwards and it posed a grave risk for us. If he suffered an injury, it would be a big loss to our club.”Fortunately, both Barcelona and Mascherano showed their willingness to cooperate with us and prepared various contingency plans. The negotiation went quite well.”Argentina coach [Jorge Sampaoli] strongly supports Mascherano’s move to China. And he hopes that both Mascherano and Lavezzi keep up their good form and be named in their World Cup squad. That’s what Mascherano told me today,” concluded Fu.Mascherano has said farewell to Barcelona, where he played 334 times after joining in August 2010, at a ceremony on Wednesday. He will link up with his Hebei team-mates on Friday at their winter training camp in Marbella.
Mr. Vaz said despite several achievements with respect to the Programme’s implementation, a number of areas remain to be addressed. This was disclosed by Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Hon. Daryl Vaz, in a speech read by Chief Technical Director in the Ministry, Lt. Col. Oral Khan, during the opening ceremony for a five-day ambient air quality workshop at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, on Monday (April 23). Oral Khan, during the opening ceremony for a five-day ambient air quality workshop at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, on Monday (April 23).Mr. Vaz said despite several achievements with respect to the Programme’s implementation, a number of areas remain to be addressed. These, he pointed out, include: expanding the monitoring network to incorporate regions outside the Kingston Metropolitan Area, Montego Bay, May Pen, Spanish Town and Mandeville; expanding the number of pollutants being monitored to include gaseous substances (currently only particulate matter is monitored); and developing the capacity to conduct elemental speciation.Other areas, the Minister said, include: publishing an Air Quality Index which provides daily information to the public on air quality in their respective areas as also precautionary measures for personal protection; implementing strategies to reduce pollutants being emitted by various sources, including a licensing and monitoring regime; and establishing air-sheds to limit emissions in specific areas. The National Environment and Planning Agency is the Programme’s coordinator and primary implementer.Meanwhile, Mr. Vaz advised that the Ministry has developed a draft Emissions Policy Framework for Jamaica. The Policy, which was developed last year, provides directives for the regulation of emissions from major sectors, including electricity, transportation and industry.“It is anticipated that the draft Policy Framework will be approved by Cabinet as a Green Paper and be opened up for public consultations early this financial year,” the Minister said. The ambient air quality workshop aims to deliver a short and intensive training exercise on the basic concepts of environmental epidemiology, with focus on assessing the impact of air pollution on health using the AirQ+ tool developed by the World Health Organization.
WR Tweets HIV results – David Clowney has bounced around the NFL, with stops in New York, Carolina, and, currently, Buffalo. He’s had a nondescript career, mostly as a deep reserve receiver, hauling in just 22 total receptions.Well, the 25-year-old finally made headlines — and it had absolutely nothing to do with football. On Tuesday, Clowney fired off a tweet of his HIV test results, which, evidently, he received from his doctors Tuesday, and was unable to contain his excitement.

For the past few years there have been changes in opening and closing dates in an effort to preserve lobster stocks… the 2015 Season opened with huge catches, but bad weather hampered hauls during February and March; it caused government to give fisherman a two week extension. The law applies not only to fisherman though, restaurants, hotels even home kitchens will find themselves breaking the law for selling, serving or stocking lobster. The fine is $5,000 with jail time of six months.
